Summary

This presentation will provide attendees with an understanding of special districts and their accountability requirements under Chapter 189, Florida Statutes, with an emphasis on the requirements that if not done correctly could result in serious consequences. Included topics are definitions, an overview of Florida’s diverse special districts, why special districts exist, accountability to citizens and state and local government, oversight and enforcement, and technical assistance resources. The presentation is designed especially for new special district employees and governing body members and anyone else who would like a refresher and an update.

1 hour credit in Special District Program component for Certified District Official Candidates, and 1 CEU for already Certified Managers and Officials.
